Unpopular Opinion: I like Martha Jones better than Rose Tyler
I don’t agree with everything, because I do love Rose. But it’s so nice to see some Martha love. She is absolutely amazing and one of my absolute favorite companions.[The reason I’m tagging Rose in this is because I want some input from Rose fans as well as Martha ones.]
I’ve been noticing that on my Martha Jones tag there is more hate than love. Martha does not deserve this hate. Most of it, as I have also noticed, is from people who think Rose is THE companion (that is, not all the hate is from Rose lovers and not all Rose lovers hate Martha). For fun, I’ve decided to do a rebuttal of some of the reasons why people don’t like Martha, in no particular order. (And as a heads-up, there are going to be some anti-Rose things in here, just to prove my points)
Unpopular opinion about Rose…
Finally figured out my feelings for Rose…
So I love Rose with 9. The two of them together is probably the reason I love DW as much as I do. My favorite episode(s) is/are The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, because of the interaction between the two of them. I think they’re wonderful together.
But I just don’t like her with 10. I mean, they get along great and there’s a few times/episodes that I absolutely love them together, but in general, I don’t like her with 10. I don’t like the romantic direction they went to. I think if they had done it with Rose and 9, I would be okay, but I just don’t like her and 10 romantically.
Maybe it’s because I think 9 and Rose are the epitome of everything right with Doctor Who. Maybe it’s that Martha is one of my favorite companions (not that I want her romantically with 10 either, honestly). Maybe it’s just her personality in the first series that I liked best.
No clue. But I just know that I don’t like them together and I know so many people who probably hate me for that opinion.
As an added reason for the Rose lovers to hate me: I’m glad 11 hasn’t mentioned her yet. The Doctor moves on. That’s what he’s always done. That’s what he’ll always do. He’s not the Doctor if he doesn’t.
